Plastic Bag Printmaking

Printmaking is close to my favourite activity with kids! Once they get the hang of it, they really embrace the independence and create the coolest little one-off artworks.

This one was a new technique we thought we would try!

Ages: 5+

You will need:

⋒ Plactic snaplock / ziplock bags

⋒ Masking tape

⋒ Acrylic paints

⋒ Paint brush or roller

⋒ Paper for printing

⋒ Cotton buds

  1. Secure your snaplock bag to a flat surface (we used masking tape).

  2. Apply paint colour(s) of your choice. Not too much, less is more here.

  3. Spread the paint over the bag using your brush or roller.

  4. Take the cotton bud & draw your design in the paint.

  5. Select your paper, press down gently & lift!

  6. Lay your print down somewhere flat to dry, then repeat!

If you don’t have cotton buds available, use the end of a paintbrush, or a finger!

We used a tray under our printing to protect the table. Be sure to do the same or lay down some newspaper to avoid paint splatter.

Be prepared for a gallery! Once kids start it’s hard to stop them with this one!

Have fun!
