Nature Spray Painting

After a challenging year health-wise I know too well the struggle to devote energy to elaborate kids activities.

I try my best to share activities that we have found equal parts simple & rewarding. Quick to setup & clean, with minimal materials for optimum little mate entertainment. This one is a new fave.

You will need:
⋒ Watercolour paper
⋒ Watercolour paints or food colouring
⋒ Spray bottles
⋒ Water
⋒ Gathered nature items (we used leaves)

1. Lay your paper on a flat, protected surface.
2. Assemble your nature items on the paper as flat as possible.
3. Fill your spray bottles with water (not fully, perhaps 1/3 full) & add drops of your favourite food colours or watercolour paints.
4. Spray each colour over your items, being careful not to move them.
5. Leave to dry then carefully remove your items, revealing the negative image they’ve created!

You can add other colours to the spray bottles as you go. A perfect lesson on primary & secondary colours.
Once the items have been removed, mix them up & encourage your little mate to find their corresponding shape - your very own puzzle!
In my experience kids LOVE spraying stuff! The spray bottle painting is a great activity on it’s own! If you’ve got an easel, or somewhere safe to peg up a large sheet of paper, let them run wild creating colourful artworks.

Have fun!
