Paper Towel Butterflies

There are never too many butterflies in the garden!

Ages: 5+

You will need:

⋒ Paper towel

⋒ Scissors

⋒ Pencil

⋒ Dinner bowl

⋒ Food colouring / textas / paint sticks

⋒ Eye dropper

⋒ Spray bottle

⋒ Wooden pegs

1. Cut a square of paper towel into a circle shape. TIP: Fold in half, trace around half a dinner bowl then cut!

2. When using food colouring: Dampen the towel slightly then use an eye dropper to drip colours, watching them spread & blend all over the paper.

3. When using textas/paint sticks: Colour in your paper towel as much as possible then squirt with the water spray bottle, watching the colours bleed.

4. Leave to dry.

5. Cut your circle in half & swap the sides over creating a butterfly shape.

6. Pinch in the middle & secure with a peg (body).

7. Add details like eyes or antenna as you please!

Despite the number of steps this is one of the easiest butterfly crafts I’ve done! Little mates love ‘cause & effect,’ so you may end up with a dozen butterflies as they delight in pumping the water & watching the colours change! Be sure to pop an old sheet or newspaper down to catch any wayward colour.

Have fun!
