Kaleidoscope
The world needs more rainbows right now so create some colourful,
magical patterns at home!
You will need:
⋒ Empty & clean Pringles can
⋒ Mirror paper/ metallic wrap/ foil
⋒ A4 coloured paper
⋒ A4 cardboard
⋒ Washi tape
⋒ PVA glue
⋒ Scissors
⋒ Glitter/sequins/confetti
1. Cover the outside of the can with coloured paper & secure it with washi tape. Decorate it with textas, paint, stickers or anything you have on hand!
2. Use your scissors to punch a little eye hole in the sealed end of the can (grown-ups job).
3. Using PVA, glue any combination of sequins, glitter & confetti to the inside of the lid and leave to dry.
4. To create the prism inside, measure and cut a rectangle from your cardboard 16.5cm x 22cm (just shorter than the length of the can).
5. Cut the same sized rectangle from your mirrored material & glue to the cardboard.
(If you happen to have mirrored card on hand no need for this step, the card will already be strong enough to fold)
6. Fold your mirrored rectangle into thirds (cardboard on the outside) & secure with tape to create a triangle prism 22cm long.
7. Pop your prism inside the can and secure the lid making sure it spins freely.
8. Head outside or to a window, take a look through your kaleidoscope, spinning the lid to enjoy the colourful patterns!
Alternatively, you can leave the lid clear & peep through the kaleidoscope at different colourful things in your environment, spinning the can to create crazy patterns!
Also any spare tube is suffice! I just liked the Pringles can as it was big and easy for my little 3 year old to handle.
Have fun!
